Twin Lakes Of Jammu

TWO LAKES OF JAMMU AND KASHMIR Surinsar Lake and Mansar Lake are considered to be twin lakes. Surinsar Lake is situated at a distance of 25 km. from Jammu City and Mansar lake another 27 Kms from Surinsar Lake. Both the lakes are known for their natural beauties, surrounded by thickly wooded mountain ranges dominated by pine and mangrove trees. The quietness of the forest around adds to the serenity of these lakes which makes it an ideal gateway for those seeking tranquillity and peace of mind. It was a sunny day, I and my wife decided to drive to Surinsar and Mansar Lakes just for recharging ourselves. Started our journey at around 8:30 in the morning. It was the second week of February and there was some feeling of the spring season in the air. It took us around 2 hours to reach Mansar via Surinsar as the route was a bit hilly and new for us. It is a very interesting route with some breathtaking views.

Once we reached Mansar Lake, it was a wow feeling beyond our expectations, after strolling around for a while and relaxing, we decided to hire a paddle boat first. Spotted beautiful white cranes and artificial motor-operated fountains inside the lake. After enjoying our boating we decided to have a break, and relax with some juices. Started strolling again capturing every beautiful moment from the sprawling and well-maintained lawns surrounding the lake.

Our next funny moment was when we decided on a camel ride. My wife hesitated in the beginning but later enjoyed it and I must recommend it for all. It was simply fun. It was already 2 PM so we decided to have a lunch break at a nearby restaurant run by JKTDC. After lunch, we again spent some time on the lawns from where one can feast one’s eyes with the spectacular sight of the lake surrounded by thick forest. At around 4 PM we decide to return with the thought that we had to spend some time at Surinsar Lake and other viewpoints on way back to Jammu. Stopped at Suransar lake and enjoyed some quiet moments as the lake is visited by a few and is still in the developing phase. Though there are no such amenities as in Mansar Lake, it can beat any other spot of its panoramic view and quietness. Enjoyed some chat and fed the fish inside the sacred lake. As the tourism department was working on various development projects in and around the lake. I hope, on the occasion of our next visit, we will find the place with many more attractions. After Suransar Lake we again stopped at two spots among many developed and maintained by JKTDC from where one can enjoy the breathtaking view of the valleys with dancing clouds and mountain ranges. Luckily from one such spot, we noticed a train chugging and crossing through beautiful mountain ranges. The whistle of the train was acting as an added flavour with natural sound created by the wind while tossing the pine needles in between.

At the end of the day, we felt fully charged for our next day-to-day challenges and we must recommend these places to everyone who is seeking tranquillity and peace of mind
